Art for Art's Sake

They call Gehard Demetz a mystery artist, because all that is known about him is that he lives in the mountains of Selva Gardena in Italy. And he makes these incredible wooden sculptures. Of all the art in the world, I find sculpture to have the greatest wow factor. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I can't produce it to the degree of the maters. Take a look at Gehard Demetz's work

Pretty amazing.
As an aspiring artist, I find so much inspiration in the works of other's. Art is a filter in many ways. We use it to assimilate the things we see and experience  through our own styles and personalities. Sometimes I have a problem getting my students to understand this. They see types of inspiration as stealing. I have been on a quest to find my own voice at a deeper level. Feeling as if Im almost there, I still need that extra element to really finish my pieces. I have been looking to urban artists for that last touch. One such artist that I recently came across is Eric Otto. His use of spray paint and variety of mediums is right up my alley. Plus, he also has that graphic quality that seems to emanate in my own work.
My most recent piece is some-what inspired by Eric Otto. I will post it soon, cause Im not sure it is finished yet.

Another Artist I recently cam across is Joe Russo, and his recent alias UR. Maybe his urban collage style is the missing part of my work. For this I would need a screen printer.

Also, before you go, here are some images of the mural I was a part of putting together at Niles West, along with some student art.
It is Giant! 3 walls in total.
Here are examples of the Student Art at Niles West.

Artwork overload.
